
Branding Done Right: Your Key to a Lasting Impression
Let me just start by saying that a brand identity is more than just a logo. I couldn’t tell you how many times people have approached me to get their “branding done” aka- “I just need a logo”. And that is somewhat fine because they do need a logo to represent their business. But what they fail to understand is that a logo is just one of the many elements that make up a brand. In order to create a successful brand, it needs to be developed the right way!
A brand is composed of various elements that together identify and distinguish a business. Think about it in terms of a person. Not everybody looks the same, sounds the same, and acts the same. We are all unique in our own ways, and that is exactly the same with a brand. In order to build a strong, cohesive, and consistent brand your brand identity needs to be able to communicate your brand’s personality, purpose, and core values.
Here are some of the key elements your brand must include:
A voice:
Your brand voice is a very important part of your brand identity- it represents your personality and emotion and will be the emotional connection with your audience. The way that you write your content matters. Define who you are and stick to it to portrait a consistent brand voice and personality throughout all your marketing channels. (website, social, print)
Brand identity design:
Your brand’s visuals are all those graphic elements that visually define who you are. Such as logo design, logo variations, color palette, typography, imagery guidelines, wordmarks, symbols.
Digital and print assets:
This includes your website, social media graphics, email templates, ebooks, branding photography, thank you cards, training material, business cards, packaging, letterheads, brochures.
Your brand voice, brand identity design, and digital and print assets should all come together to create a cohesive brand experience for your audience. Always remember that in order for a brand to be successful, it must remain consistent. WHY? because if you are not consistent with what you are putting out there, then people (aka potential clients, readers, followers) won’t be able to easily recognize who you are. Meaning that you won’t come to the top of their mind when they are ready to make a final decision. They won’t remember you because you didn’t leave a lasting impression.
So make sure that everything you are putting out there, from your website to your social media graphics to your printed material all look the same, feel the same, speak the same. Just remember: Staying consistent is the key!
A piece of advice:
Before you move forward with your business, business idea, blog, etc. I recommend that you sit down and ask yourself the following questions: does my brand have a clear voice and purpose? Does it look and feel cohesive? am I in love and proud of my brand? do I have brand identity guidelines in place?. If you answered no to any of those questions, then it’s time to get to work!
